Cantab DC

Membership Outreach

Your Involvement, Support and Active Participation are Important to the Cambridge Community in the greater DC metropolitan area.

Dear Fellow Cambridge Alumni,

Over the past few years the Cambridge Society of Washington DC has embarked upon making our network the most established and active alumni-run Cambridge Society in the US. We are hoping to expand both the scope of our events and our membership base, but in order to do this we could use your help:

Become a Member! Its easy and (mostly) free...or at least affordable for ticketed ents. All you have to do is sign up and show up! Check out our member benefitsdirectory, and upcoming events. Notably, we host a cash bar Happy Hour on the First Thursday of every month at The Willard HotelThe Drinks is an elegant but low-key event where you can enjoy a great mix of alumni of all ages, degree programs and life experiences, with lots to discuss in a friendly and easygoing environment. We encourage you to update your user profile (be sure to list your Cambridge College under "Schools") and set your user settings to visible in order to create an active and visible alumni community.

Help Us Get in Touch with Local Alumni! There are over 2000 Cambridge alumni in the greater Washington DC metro area, but we are missing the email addresses of many more! DC is a transient area and many alumni are new, some are only on their college lists (which aren't always shared), and some don’t even know the Society exists! Please don’t assume that your local alumni friends are on our mailing list. If they are interested in what the Society is doing, please encourage them contact us or have them sign up via our automated system to get on the mailing list. Alternatively, just forward them this newsletter. You may be surprised to hear that they've never seen it before!

Call for Volunteers Want to get involved with one of the best Cambridge alumni societies in North America? We are growing and we need more help! We are looking for two or three volunteers to join our small but dedicated band of alumni organizers who plan and manage our events. It's your Society, and this is your chance to own a piece, get creative, and contribute, and meet some great colleagues along the way.

Calling Non-DC Residents! Do you live just outside of DC in Maryland or Northern Virginia and want to connect with other Cambridge alumni but find that Cantab DC events too far and inconvenient to get to? Then Contact us about organizing a Happy Hour or event in your area. It's actually rather easy! You pick the venue and time/date. We will advertise it for you; all you have to do is show up and greet people.

A Call to Local Club Members. As we plan future events for alumni, we are seeking alumni who are members of local clubs and societies, or who have access to certain venues or facilities, who would be willing to assist us in working with these groups. Currently, we are looking particularly (but not exclusively) for alumni who are members of: Local boat/rowing clubs, to help out the Cantab DC Alumni Boat Club with access to crew facilities for our next alumni Cambridge-Oxford Potomac Boat Race; Social clubs such as the Cosmos Club, the Metropolitan Club, or the University Club, to help us explore opportunities for hosting Cantab DC events in the facilities available there.

Join the Cantab DC Boat Club! Did you row while at Cambridge – at any level? Did you not row, but still dreamed of learning sometime in life? Are you male or female, and breathing? Then you should join us in having fun preparing for “The Other Boat Race”, against “The Other Place” on the Potomac River every Fall.

Call for PledgesDid you know that the Cambridge Society of Washington, D.C. is the only tax-exempt, incorporated Cambridge local alumni society in the United States? We encourage our members to consider donations to the Society to allow us to continue and expand our event programming for the years to come. Your tax-deductible donations will go to maintaining the Society's excellent new website, and to planning events. It will have a major positive impact! It's fast, easy, useful, tax-deductible and deeply appreciated! You may also consider...

Corporate sponsorships with Cantab DC! Would your company or association like to reach over 2000 Cambridge alumni living in the Washington DC area? Then consider advertising on our website, sponsoring one of our events, or giving a discount on your services to the members of the Cambridge Society of Washington DC!   Support the Light Blue of Washington DC by asking your company if they would like to advertise!  See our new advertising brochure for the range of services that Cantab DC can offer your organization. Advertising to our society will not only offer your organization brand exposure to our professional/consumer audiences, but can also increase the volume of your business and help the society!

Supporting Cambridge Students and Recent Graduates! The Cambridge Careers Service provides careers advice and information to all current University of Cambridge undergraduate and postgraduate students. Click here to learn how Cambridge can help your career and what you can offer Cambridge in return!

Still Collecting Anecdotes! We are planning to let alumni interested in the history of Cantab DC enjoy the fascinating stories and anecdotes which the Society’s veterans have to share. If you have stories you wish to share with other alumni, please don’t hesitate to mail them to us.

We would greatly welcome your support in any of these efforts to strengthen the ties of our great university in the District of Columbia. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our programming, please do let us know by Contacting UsThanks for helping to build our Society.

Warm regards,

The Cambridge Society of Washington, DC
