A Cambridge Christmas Formal
Since its founding in 1878 the Cosmos Club has counted among its members thee US Presidents, 32 Nobel Prize Winners, a dozen Supreme Court justices, and 56 Pulitzer Price winners.
Join Cantab DC for a Formal Hall Dinner and Caroling at the Cosmos Club

The Cambridge Society of Washington, DC is proud to be able to announce the first Christmas Formal Hall ever to be celebrated on the shores of the New Continent, to be held in one of the most elegant and historic venues of the Nation’s Capital; the legendary Warne Ballroom at the Cosmos Club.

Together with our guests from the other British Universities, we shall be celebrating this Christmas Formal Hall with carols, mulled wine and figgy pudding. We will relive fond memories of formal halls past, of friendships thence forged, and of vivid conversation and furtive glances between future College sweethearts. Join us in celebrating this vital piece of College life, and start the Christmas season by making new friends in DC.

Dinner will be preceded by drinks in the Cosmos Club’s hallowed Long Gallery, where many a DC political career had been made and lost amidst thickening clouds of cigar smoke. After dinner we will retire to the fire lit Old Members Dining Room for Port, cheese, and more conversation.

The event article can be viewed online along with the event program and pictures from the evening. Many thanks are given to Eden Hansen for the pictures and Rachel Hickling for the flowers.

Singles Section: We are taking on a suggestion to organize a single's section/table at the dinner for those of any age. We will have an "MCR-Singles" Section for our more mature guests and a "JCR-Singles Section" for the more foolhardy. Please email us if you would like to reserve a seat at that table or would like to be connected with others at the table in advance of the event.

Pre-event Drinks: For those who would like to get an early start to the evening, some guests will be gathering at the Fairfax Grille and Lounge for a quick drink from 6:00ish(or earlier) to 6:30 whereupon the group will head over to the Cosmos Club for the event; only a block away. This will be very much an informal gathering, but there should be a focal point at the bar that will help guests of the Formal Hall find eachother.
