Global Cambridge: Toronto 2013
Cambridge and Canada: a meeting of minds (CARO)

Can't get to Cambridge? Never fear, because in a new series of alumni events, Cambridge is coming to you. The Global Cambridge series brings a slice of Cambridge academic life to alumni around the world, giving you the chance to hear from leading experts in their field and network with fellow alumni.

On Saturday 7 December, Global Cambridge will be held in the stunning surroundings of the Royal Ontario Museum, one of the world's leading museums of natural history and world cultures and is one of the largest museums in North America.

The afternoon will begin with lunch hosted by Alison Traub, the University’s new Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, followed by a thought provoking afternoon of short lectures. Speakers include Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill, Director of Research in the Faculty of Classics; Professor Bill Harris, Head of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (and the University’s ice hockey coach).

There will also be an interactive panel discussion chaired by Janet Carding, (King’s 1983) Director and CEO of the Royal Ontario Museum. The topic for the panel is 'How do we make the past relevant for our future?' Janet Carding will be joined by Dr Xerxes Mazda (Downing 1985), Dr Seamus Ross (University of Oxford, DPhil, 1992) and Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill.

The event will conclude with an early evening drinks reception giving you the opportunity to meet the speakers and fellow delegates and catch-up with old and new friends alike. On Saturday evening there will be a number ofCollege dinners taking place in the city; confirmed to date are Darwin, Downing and Trinity.

On Friday 6 December the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Toronto will host a reception at the University Club of Toronto with former Supreme Court Justice the Honourable Ian Binnie (Pembroke 1960) speaking.

Events on 6 and 7 December are open to alumni from both Oxford and Cambridge and any guests. If you run a recognised Alumni Group then you are also warmly welcome to attend the Alumni Groups Leadership Conference on Saturday morning.

Whether you are from Toronto, across the border, or just visiting, we hope you will join us. Booking closes on Monday 25 November.
