Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in history and mathematics and a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. I matriculated at Peterhouse that fall, earning an MPhil in Development Studies. I then completed the Basic Officers Course, Infantry Officers Course, and Light Armored Recon Leaders Course under the Marine Corps Combat Development Command before reporting to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in California as a platoon commander. I was deployed to the formerly restive Al Anbar province of Iraq in 2007 as the commander of 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Light Armored Recon Battalion. After a six month stint as the Assistant Battalion Operations Officer upon my return to the States, I reported to my current station at Marine Corps Base Quantico, just south of Washington, D.C., as an instructor training new Marine Corps Lieutenants. My wife, Ellie, recently completed her Masters of Education at the University of San Diego and teaches math and science at John Paul the Great Catholic High School.
