Biography:
Yvonne Prempeh-Ferguson was born in Ghana and did her undergraduate work in the University of Ghana where she earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Social Sciences (Clinical Psychology and Sociology) in 1986. Between 1986 and 1988 she taught undergraduate classes in Clinical and Developmental Psychology at the same University. In 1988, she was awarded a Cambridge University Overseas Development Agency (ODA) scholarship and studied in Cambridge, England for two years as a member of Clare Hall. In 1989, she earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Studies from Cambridge University and in 1990 an M.Phil in Economics and Politics of Development. The same year, she was awarded a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Fellowship, and between 1990 and 1993 she studied at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, where she earned an MA in Development Economics in 1993. Within that period she spent 10 months in Indonesia, working as a Junior Advisor for CIDA conducting research on Macroeconomic Policy and its links with Environmental Degradation. Subsequently, she taught Undergraduate and Graduate Courses in Development Studies and Development Economics at Dalhousie University and St. Mary’s University; both in Halifax, Canada for a year. In 1994, she migrated to the US and worked as an HIV/AIDS Program Director with Sub-Sahara AIDS Rescue, an HIV/AIDS service organization based in New York and funded by the New York City Department of Health and the AIDS Institute. In February of 2000, she moved to Kenya, and worked for Catholic Relief Services Kenya/Tanzania Program as the HIV/AIDS Unit Manager; a post she held until December 2003. In March 2004, she joined British Council Nigeria where she worked on a World Bank-funded Universal Basic Education (UBE) project as an HIV/AIDS Technical Advisor to the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education. Yvonne joined World Vision US on December 5h as an HIV/AIDS Technical specialist. Yvonne loves singing, cooking, traveling and working with children and disadvantaged groups.
